Issue #86830 from Feb. 2022 may have returned. It is about being unable to use a link to the club's Public Downloads section to retrieve a file when not logged in. I uploaded a file, saved, rightmouse on the icon in the left edge to get its link, then embed that link in a public page for guests. I also tried to simply put the link into a browser URL box. Either way, it says the document is unavailable and just takes me to the club's homepage. I tried several other documents previously in the Public Downloads and get the same outcome   --- Larry Wilson,VP Education, Metcalf Toastmasters club #4843 (metcalf.toastmastersclubs.org/)

It's a bit difficult for us to troubleshoot without a specific example.  I picked on one example from your "for our guests" page where the url from file manager shows as
metcalf.toastmastersclubs.org/jdownload....or_guest_packet.xlsx
The url on the page is
metcalf.toastmastersclubs.org/dues_sched...or_guest_packet.xlsx"

Maybe you need to check and correct the links on your page.  Using the "check for bad links" tool provided, I found three bad links on that page.

Hi Pam. Thanks for letting me know about the "Bad Links" tool. Of the three that appeared in the list, two are for the documents for guests to download. The third one -- "Pathways Overview" -- using CTRL-F within the HTML source code does not find that one...??? Maybe that is for a document no longer available to download?

Maybe I am incorrectly getting the link to a  document in the Public Download. When logged in as Admin and in the File Manager screen, I right click the icon at the left edge of the wanted document and select "Copy Link". Then I paste that into the appropriate <a href=""> (I clicked the "Source" button to see the actual HTML) on the "For Our Guests" page. Just tried it again with same result of unable to open or save the documents.

There are plenty of handy tools available in the system

To get the URL for the file, you should left click the related icon and follow the instructions here

While poking around at this I fixed your PDF link. Mouse-over the Excel file link and look at the address. You'll see the download code is missing:

metcalf.toastmastersclubs.org/dues_sched...or_guest_packet.xlsx

There's no need to go into the source code. Once you have the correct address per Pam's instructions, right click on the link and select 'Edit Link'.

Excellent, Richard. Now I see what I was doing incorrectly. I was a software developer my entire career (now retired) and it seems I over-thought this one. --- Larry Wilson
