Hi there,

Could you please tell me how  to make a custom page link open in a new window?
Upon clicking the custom page name on the side bar I want the link to open in a new browser tab.
This would be a similar behavior to the "Free Resources" link on FTH sites.

This documentation does not describe how to do that support.toastmastersclubs.org/doc/item/links-to-other-sites
Thank you.

Kristie

When you open up the link window, go to the second tab, Target. Click on the drop-down and select New Window (_blank).

The coded behavior of custom page links is to open a new window. If your site is not doing this we'll need your club number to investigate.

I will post a related follow-up on a subtle, undocumented aspect of custom menu links. (I think it is relevant.)

If you create a stand-alone custom menu link (*not* in a custom page), the code tries to figure out whether the link references a page on your website or not, since you do not have the option of setting the target for those links. If the code thinks the link refers to a page in your website, it will *not* make the target _blank. If it refers to a page outside of your website, it will make that target _blank.

Note that this is *only* for the case of creating a custom link on the menu, not a link embedded inside a custom page. It is done this way so that people who want to move the default pages to a different spot on the menu can still have the appearance of them loading quickly from the same website.

Hi @rhtaylor3,
Thanks for the feedback.
This is what I want to achieve on our left navigation fairlawn.toastmastersclubs.org/
Officer Training link - it was created as a custom page and it opens in the same window. This is great.
TM83 - I want this link to open a new window and go right away to the TM83 website fairlawn.toastmastersclubs.org/TM83.html . This would be the same behavior as the "District 29 Events" link on this website towncentertoastmasters.toastmastersclubs.org/. How do I achieve that?

Our club number is 7481966
Our website fairlawn.toastmastersclubs.org

Thank you,

Kristie

This would be the same behavior as the "District 29 Events" link on this website  towncentertoastmasters.toastmastersclubs.org/ . How do I achieve that?

The 'District 29 Events' menu item in your example is compliant with the FTH instructions to create a custom menu link.

'District 29 Events' opens a new window because it inks directly to tmd29.org/calendar/?276Cvg, not to a page on their own site.

I want this link to open a new window and go right away to the TM83

The custom page on your site 'TM83.html' is not needed to create a menu item that goes directly to tm83.org/

Note the instructions on this page are specific to ensuring a custom menu LINK is created to an external site, rather than creating a custom page on your own site;
