I have a member who is "checked" on the inactive member list.  When I uncheck their name so they are no longer tagged as an inactive member, then (according to documents I do NOT have to click "save" before leaving the window) close that window, I expect to not see their name checked when I go back to the inactive member list again. This is not happening.  When I uncheck the individual name, and go back to the page, their name is still checked.  I have tried this multiple times and can't seem to get the check mark cleared from their name in the inactive member list under the membership management area.  What am I doing wrong, or please fix this.

FTH does not have an inactive members list.
We have a FORMER members list.
Select the person in the former members list and then use the pull down to move them to the members list

I don't see any anomalous behavior in your membership management module. Maybe a browser issue; clear your cache and reload the site from the server (link at the bottom of the site) to help rule that out. If it persists let us know your browser & operating system versions.

The Members tab doesn't have an inactive function. Is your intention to move this person to Former Members?

A checkbox on the left is only used to execute one of the commands in the Membership Tools dropdown menu. The Save button is needed to run whichever command is selected from the dropdown list on the checked members.

Please let us know which document is referenced in your description. We would like to double check the accuracy of the instructions.

Please see my attachments.  The InactiveMember list is a custom list.  If Inactive Members (who have paid dues but do not participate) are supposed to be moved to the Former Members list (meaning those who have not/stopped paying their dues and are no longer members of Toastmasters), that doesn't seem right.

I guess the simplest solution would be to delete the custom list.  So how do I do that?  If I highlight all names in the custom list and hit delete, I'm afraid I will remove all their names from the "active" member list as well.

What do I do?

You can edit group members in the Custom Groups tab if you wish.

Perfectly clear now, thanks! Sorry, I overlooked the "...custom group..." line near the top of your original images and started barking up the wrong tree.

I think I duplicated your original description; I removed Dianne from the InactiveMembers custom group, didn't save and she still has the check mark when selecting this group from the drop down on the Members tab.

Any changes must be saved. I skimmed the custom groups doc and didn't see an instance that might imply the save is not needed.

To delete a group remove all members (or all but 1 member) from it. A group of one can't exist.

If you make a dummy member account (e.g. called Inactive Members) that permanently resides in this custom group then you can keep only 1 real person in this custom group when needed.

A group of one can't exist.

I think you mean an empty group cannot exist...right?

Custom "groups" are just "tags" that are added to the member records in the db.  There isn't any table of the group names themselves anywhere in the db.  Thus, if no members have the custom group tag, then essentially the group does not exist in the db.

Well, here's what I came up with:
  1. Select the custom list under the "Select By Group" drop-down menu (upper right corner of dialog box).
  2. Select all names in that list and choose "Delete People" from the "Membership Tools" list.
    1. Not only did this delete all names in the custom list, it deleted all names in the "main" members list.
  3. Navigated to the "Former Members" tab and selected "Undelete People".  This added the people I had just deleted into the existing list which contained other Former Members.
  4. From the Former Members list, I selected all of our known active members and chose "Move to Members List" from the Membership Tools list.
  5. Once back at the Members tab, I checked to make sure the requested names had been returned.  I also updated the officer roles assigned to our current executive committee because all names had reverted to the default 'Select Officer Role(s)' option.
  6. I also checked to see if the custom list "InactiveMembers" had been removed.  It was gone.
Everything is as it should be now.
I'm sorry, but this seemed like too much to go through just to get rid of a custom list.  I should have simply been able to delete the custom list in and of itself and not have that action affect the names on any other main or custom list.  So much for my 2-cents worth.
Thanks for your assistance.

You seem to have missed the purpose of the 'select by group' tool.  That allows you to quickly select the required group members, they will be checked in the parent list (e.g. Members).  You can leave that as is or uncheck any of them or select more before using the Membership Tools to apply a function to those selected members (e.g. move them to the former members list, or send a basic email...)

To actually add or remove members from a custom list, you need to go into the Custom Groups tab - details here:  support.toastmastersclubs.org/doc/item/custom-groups

When I was working with 1070's group with two members, removing one of them eliminated the group. Hence, my comment.
