When I do a Google search for our club, the first result is a link to the FTH homepage, not a link to the FTH page for our club.
Our club name is Brunswick County Toastmasters.
The title of the Google result is also "Brunswick County Toastmasters", but the link is =11.0ptto toastmastersclubsorg.toastmastersclubs.org
The proper link to our club is brunswickcounty.toastmastersclubs.org
=11.0ptHow could this happen, and how do we fix it?
We have a big publicity event next week, so it is important that people can reach our website!
Any advice will be appreciated.
Best wishes,
Andy

Someone at sometime put an incorrect link to your site and google caught it.

Your link at toastmasters.org find a club is
1592761.toastmastersclubs.org/directions.html

Do you know of any other sites that link to your club like your district website?

Using the google webmaster tools you should be able to request that that link be removed.

Thank you for the speedy response.

Offhand, I'm not aware of other sites that link to our club, but I assume that some exist. The link that you mentioned from toastmasters.org is ok, although it sends people to the page for directions, instead of the homepage. Another link that I've seen is brunswickcounty.toastmastersclubs.org

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with google webmasters tools, and the website that you suggested is indeed frightening (improving-google-ranking). I've now looked through it twice, and I don't see any information that is directly related to my problem. Nonetheless, the information looks valuable, so I may invest more time when this crisis has passed.

The Google search is erroneously sending people to your website, so I wonder if you need to tell Google to stop. I'm surprised that I could ask Google to stop sending people to someone else's website. Otherwise, businesses could ask Google to stop sending potential customers to their competitors. Does that make sense?

Thanks again for your help, and many thanks for all of your efforts with this service!
Best wishes, Andy

Hello again, Brian.
I'm wondering if websites can enter "anti-keywords" so that Google will NOT send them people who are searching for that term.
For example, you could enter an "anti-keyword" that tells Google that you do NOT want to be linked with people who use the search term "Brunswick".
I did not see this option in your documentation, but I thought I'd ask anyway.
Just a thought...
The term "Brunswick" appears throughout our Club Name, Description, Keywords, and Website Alias; so I'm still surprised that Google would ever think that your website is a better fit for searches that use the term.
Thanks again,
Andy

I told you how to ask for that link to be removed.

You need to signup for the webmaster tools with google.
