Custom Website Domain

Hello,

I'm having trouble saving our new custom website domain. Getting the ***DATA TRANSFER ERROR*** JavaScript Function=StdAdminSaveBtnClick Status=error error= <empty>

Believe I've checked all the pre-reqs. I've tried logging out as admin and refreshing the page a few times, given it multiple days to propagate(domain was established last Thursday evening 3/19/20), and checked DNS records...all seem to be in order from what I can tell.

Any assistance you can offer would be appreciated.

This is for club: 680950
Old Domain: fandmtm.org
New Domain: redrosetm.org

I went to the same domain registrar company for the new one as we've used for the old one and asked them to set it up the same on their end...which from what I can tell they have.

Thanks,
Mitch

1) when ever you receive the Data Trafer error click on the reload link at the bottom of your site.

2) the domain redrosetm.org is not set up correctly

missing MX record

Good day,
I am the person Mitch was referring to on Domain setup. The old domain name fandmtm.org has been up and running for 5+ years and is currently club #680950 custom domain name. Thier new domain name is setup exactly as fandmtm.org and resolves to www.toastmastersclubs.org/welcome/?h97y

The host setting at my registrar (tucows) for mx settings only allows mail.redrosetm.org but am fairly certain that this would give a mx10 setting as this is the highest priority and all other mail mx setting are secondary to it. Do you now require a txt record possibly such as spf?

Is it possibly that since they already use a custom domain that your name server somehow is blocking them from changing names? puzzled why I have 2 domain names that currently resolve correctly to 2 different clubs and yet with the same host records Mitch can't change his custom domain name

Well, that may be, but fandmtm.org is also missing an MX record. Because of the flexibility of FTH, you can still use the email features without an MX record, but you will not be able to send emails using your custom domain (that is the key difference).

So, for example: officers-680950@toastmastersclubs.org VS officers@fandmtm.org

You can always use the club number version of the email addreses, but having the MX record (and mail/A record) set just gives the email addresses a more customized, distinctive look.

Ok, you should be all set now. Custom domain name *changes* can sometimes be a bit challenging for the server code, because of the SSL certificate stuff that is involved. (has to both ditch the old certificate and create a new one)

The "safe" way to change custom domains is always to remove the first domain, save and close, then navigate back to the website w/ the club number, and finally enter the new domain name, save and close. (This is what I did.)
