I found out the hard way a long time ago that a given e-mail address can only appear once, across all of the FTH lists (Member, Guests, etc.), but I don't believe your problem to be an e-mail address already used issue. Why? (and assuming that that Messrs. Wyatt and Brewer are the folks to whom you are referring), a crossed out name means that a person has not yet opted in, and thus the system prohibits communication with him. I just re-sent the Opt In message to both of them, and per FTH suggestion, someone should follow up via phone to ensure the message was received (check junk/spam) and encourage the recipient to accept (opt in).
