Your website still shows Dan as not having opted in.
It is possible that mistakenly Dan clicked on something other than the opt-in. All the emails new members sometimes get can be a bit overwhelming and confusing. My suggestion: Coordinate a bit closely w/ Dan... Use the re-send opt-in email feature from the drop-down menu in membership management to send Dan a "fresh" opt-in email that lands at the top of his inbox. After doing this, quickly tell Dan that you sent it and ask him to look for the most recent opt-in email... tell some words from the opt-in email to search for in his inbox. Regards,
