Direct deposit option--time for something newer?

As District 38 FTH support person I was helping someone this afternoon get her club's system more ship shape.  She dropped a bomb on me by asking me "What is this direct deposit thing in the Dues app?"  I looked at it and believe I now understand it but she and I wonder if members paying via direct deposit is a thing of the past, and if that payment option column on the tracking pane would not reflect a more-current (and more widely-used?) option such as Venmo.  I don't know.  Any idea if this is something still sufficiently used by clubs as a payment means to warrant its continued existence?
Just wonderin'.

I believe it is more for corporate clubs--it pre-dates my involvement.    There are some things that are more needed by corporate clubs.

Also, I believe that Venmo is now owned by Paypal, which we support.  I think we would need to talk about what would be be different or added for support of additional electronic payment schemes such as Venmo or Square.

Direct Deposit in the dues app is used by clubs outside the US for paying money into the club account (which the club then, under the current system, pays in bulk via credit card to TI). Cheques aren't used any more in New Zealand, so, unless we want members turning up with wads of cash (no thanks!), direct credit and Pay Pal are our only options.

I don't know for sure, but I get the feeling that not that many clubs here use Pay Pal.

Some do, but it is typically not the sole method of getting payment for most clubs that use it.  It is typically just implemented as an alternative method.

I'm not saying we should eliminate/replace PayPal. If it makes global sense to retain the direct deposit option then so be it.

I imagine all clubs use internet banking ( Direct Deposit) in Australia
We only use PayPal for non-Australian members of online clubs
