Yes, I said that it was a space that was encoded in my post above...

I've managed to get Google to recognize our new URL, but the procedures for BIng don't seem to work. Bing's meta tag option tells me to paste it into the "head" section of our default page, but I don't know how to do that. Pasting it into the designated spot in the Admin. console doesn't result in a verification. I've tried pasting it into the text section of the Home Page, but that didn't work either.

The link to Bing Webmaster Tools in the document you referenced sends me to the Google Search Console!

Another problem is how to get them to drop the old, longer URL - it still comes up first in a Google search for Yarmouth Toastmasters.

Thanks again for your help.

You just need to put what Bing gives you in the space provided in the admin console. (Website Statistics tab) We handle putting it in the head section of the webpage for you.

It looks like you already have done that... it looks fine to me. Since Bing should now be able to verify you have rights to the website, then you probably just need to use the Bing webmaster tools to request that Bing rescan/re-index your website now. Then Bing should show your website in its search results.

FYI: our server program code takes what you enter and automatically puts it in the head section of your website for you:

Well, as I noted above, this "is going to be a bit more challenging beyond getting the Find a Club entry corrected"...

The easy way to do this is just to wait until Bing and Google rescan your website... I don't know when that would be.

If you are not willing to wait, then your only recourse is to use the webmaster tools, which is a more advanced approach and will involve some techie stuff.

Thanks, I think that's what I'll do unless I come across someone with more technical expertise. I'm really grateful for all your help.
