A member blacklisted her own email address by error & wants to undo it

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the added security you've been adding. Could you add an 'are you sure' dialog also, with a lay-person description of what a blacklist is, and when an email should be added to the blacklist (perhaps with an example - e.g. a phishing email)?

We recently had a legitimate inquiry from the Contact Us link. Today when I logged in as site admin I noticed in the messages that one of our officers had added the person to the blacklist. The idea of 'black vs white' was fuzzy in my mind too. I clicked the same link in the email to add the person to the blacklist and it was readily done - but without any "are you sure" dialog. A non-technical person might reasonably wonder, "Is 'black' the 'good' list or the 'bad' list?" In some common usages, black is considered 'good,' so those not familiar with the term may be unsure, and click the link for a legitimate contact.

I went to the email security page and removed the person who had contacted us from the blacklist. A helpful note about how to remove someone from the blacklist would be good to have too if there's room.

Maybe in the page that pops up after blacklisting, you could add an 'undo' URL?

Let me take a look at this... While I cannot really do much from the initial link in the email (in-email features are very limited), there may be something I can do on the landing page, as you are mentioning. (Thx for the ideas.)

The landing page is supposed to be a "dumb page" (no scripts), so enhancing it may require some creativity. Perhaps the link to do the actual unsubscribe is on the landing page, and not in the email.

Also, was this a member blacklisting themselves as your topic title indicates? Your post seems to indicate something different.

I ask this because I specifically already added a "Oops prevention" for members to prevent members blacklisting themselves via the link.

It was not a member accidentally blacklisting themselves in our case, but a person who clicked the Contact Us link on the club website to get more information, who was accidentally blacklisted by one of our club officers.

The discussion in this thread seemed relevant since it was related to 'oops' prevention for the blacklist; adding a legitimate contact to the blacklist is another sort of 'oops' to prevent.

Thanks again for the added security, and for following up on the suggestion for more layperson info about blacklists and another type of 'oops' prevention.
