Not able to update site admin password

After spending an hour requesting new site admin passwords, refreshing cookies, and searching for the "Launch Admin Console" button, I finally got the site to work and accessed the "Administrator Info" tab. I entered a new password, clicked save, and an error message said I was no longer logged in. I tried three more times, figuring I needed to enter it faster, but it must require a superhuman speed because it's sill giving me the same message (see attached). Why is this so hard??
