When I checked his email originally, something had overwritten his email address with some "no-mail"(?) or other address. Can't remember exactly what it said, but it seemed to be an automatic action. I then re-inserted the d-cmcneill@nc.rr.com but then I received the error message reported in the original email.
Yes, I figured you tried to put the email address back in, but our bounce log will not allow an email address that has been bouncing a lot to be used--we can clear an email address from the log, but we will not do that if the address just is going to keep bouncing. This behavior is not a bug, it is as I designed it, and it will not be changed. It the system determines that a recipient email address has been repeatedly been bouncing our email sends, it will just stop sending those emails at some point and remove the email address from the system. Perhaps that seems heavy-handed, but we have been tolerating a lot of stuff with email that we should not be. Repeatedly sending emails that end up bouncing puts the system email reputation at risk, and we will not accept that. I know Brian is aligned with me on this.
I am sorry you got caught up in this. We try our best to make sure emails sent through the system are delivered, but at some point we have to accept reality and stop trying to send to an email address that just just repeatedly bounces for us.
