OPT IN quirk with dummy members
6 years 2 months ago
I added a handful of dummy members to club 9376 before this opt-in stuff was in the mix, so the problem wasn't evident until now. I used today for club 397 the Quick Add feature to put in {Area Director}, {Division Director}, {Guest}, {No evaluator}, and {Round robin evaluation}, omitting e-mail and phone number as, duh, they're dummy entries. The problem is they can't be "used" until they opt in but they can't opt in as there's no e-mail address!
I got around it by entering my e-mail address for each one, one at a time, opting in then deleting my e-mail address from that entry.
There's got be a better way?

You can add whoever you want, if they are real people they should opt-in.
Other than that clubs do fine with one "guest" member.
Creating work a rounds defeats the reason opt-in was put in place to protect people's privacy.

Thanks, Brian, for the rapid response. Our membership table contains active, dues-paying members. On occasion, a non-dues-paying dignitary or guest will take a meeting role. That's why I created the five dummy members, as agenda placeholders. They are real people who attend, but they're not real people who pay club dues. Make sense?
I'm not advocating or attempting to jeopardize people's privacy, but just get these dummy members in a useable state in the membership table, which nowadays means "opted in." The solution might be that for the dummy members, which appear in braces, the opt in processing is not required. I wrongly filed this under General Discussion. It should likely have been filed under Support Requests. Sorry!

Sorry, no we will not be doing that. One dummy member is enough for most clubs and you will have to make it work for yours.

Art, not every user is as conscientious as you are. While you may not see the potential for abuse with what you are proposing, we have seen well-intended work-arounds (e.g, "dummy members") lead to abuse or ill-advised behavior too many times. It is unfortunate, but we essentially do not want to make "work-arounds" easier for this reason.
