Unfortunately, that is a problem that we find that clubs sometimes run into.

If you cannot get the custom domain set up resolved. I would recommend ditching it and setting up a website alias instead. The only thing that would be different is how you access your website.

Here is the other thing... from the WHOIS record:

Code:
Registrar Registration Expiration Date: 2015-09-06T03:38:53Z

The domain will expire soon, and your club will have to pay the registrar (GoDaddy) a renewal fee to continue using it.

Here are some things to keep in mind depending on what you decide: support.toastmastersclubs.org/doc/item/d...tical-considerations

Can it be as easy as setting up an alias? I would use http//6500.toastmastersclubs.org. Would I leave the domain name also in that area until it expires - I think you said Sept 6th? Would I then just tell our members the new access? Would there be any additional cost? I don't understand why our club went the domain route anyway. I believe we already had a website at one time. Also there is another club out in Washington State that has our name - Eastside Toastmasters. Could that be why we went the domain name route?

What would happen to the club email addresses? Would they then agree with what is showing on the website?

6500.toastmastersclubs.org isn't an alias. It's the default version of the site address. If you're happy with it, you can just leave the alias box empty.

You can leave the domain name in the box until it expires if you wish. If it were me, I'd be advising the members to start using the replacement version straight away. I'd also update Club Central immediately. That gives Google time to catch up with the change.

There's no cost to this transition.

Once the domain name has been removed from the box, the email addresses with the club number will start showing on the website.

As for why your club went the domain route, you'd need to talk to the person who made the original decision. There can be any number of reasons for doing so.

Sorry - I don't think I"m getting it. If I don't need to put anything in the alias box, what is the process for converting to an Alias?

If you're just using the club number version, you're not using an alias at all. That's why the alias box would be empty. (An alias is a name that's used in place of the club number.)

In that case, leave the alias box empty, remove the domain name when it expires, and instruct your members to start using the 6500.toastmastersclubs.org URL.

I hope that's a bit clearer. If not, someone else will need to step in, as it's well past my bedtime and my brain may be a bit foggy.

Maybe I need to update the doc. I assumed when writing it that no one would be wanting to use a plain club-number URL, and we all know where assumptions can get one... :)
