The email address format is tied to whether there is a custom domain in use.
You probably need to correct your custom domain DNS settings or stop using the custom domain and remove it from the admin console.
To correct the DNS settings, the person that set up your custom domain will need to correct them using the document I referenced above. You should be able to get the DNS records corrected if you can determine who set up the custom domain and figure out what the proper login information is for the custom domain registrar's website (GoDaddy).
Registrar is GoDaddy... we have specific instructions for them...
