Can login via domain but not through toastmastersclubs - how got to that domain
2 years 10 months ago
There's one more question on this- where might people be finding this orangeorators.toastmastersclub.org domain online. I presume doing a search for orange orators and picking the other orange orators. Any other way I'm missing?
Thanks!

Sorry. I will restate it without the typo, and try to clarify the question: There's one more question on this- where might people be getting orangeorators.toastmastersclubs.org, and trying to go to it, rather than the orangeorators.org? Doing a search for orange orators and picking the other orange orators club is one. I did a search for the character string of "orangeorators.toastmastersclubs" and also with .org and the only meaningful hit is from the other club's web page (others were some weird search pages). Any other way I'm missing?
Thanks!

clubnumber 7470694 is where orangeorators.toastmastersclubs.org takes you.
Most clubs put the website in their toastmasters.org club contact information.

Re: Can login via domain but not through toastmastersclubs - how got to that domain
2 years 10 months agoAs Brian noted their club address is listed here:Any other way I'm missing?
www.toastmasters.org/Find-a-Club/07470694-orange-orators
This along with club advertisement and search engine ranking are the main ways. At some point in the past before your club bought a domain, did your club use this alias that is now being used by 7470694? If so, perhaps some old some old fliers or something floating around?
You could take steps to try to increase the prominence of orangeorators.org in search engine results:
support.toastmastersclubs.org/doc/item/improving-google-ranking
A couple years ago I discovered the existence of another club with the same name as ours when a member asked for login help. He search our club name and arrived at their FTH site and tried to log in. Our custom domain is com and theirs is org.

I know
www.toastmasters.org/Find-a-Club/07470694-orange-orators
is the address in find-a-club. However, if you Google Orange Orators, orangeorators.toastmastersclub.org is in at least one of the returns! orangeorators.toastmastersclubs.org take you directly to the other club. And when I Google "orangeorators.toastmastersclubs.org", I get a mixture of my club and the other club.
My best guess is a member forgets the url, does a google search, and somehow ends up at the other club as, at least for me (which I'm sure is somewhat customized by what Google knows about me), I get a mixture of returns to both clubs.
What happened around buying a domain, etc., is lost in the murk of history. However, looking at the FTH page where this information is specified, it says to choose either <name>.toastmastersclubs.org or your purchased domain. So I'm guessing that either the person who got the original domain, or someone later on read it and thought, it should be one or the other but not both and wiped out the first one. Which left it wide open for the "other" club to take it.
I'll have to look into your suggestion on increasing the prominence of our club in Google results.
Thanks much!
Nelson
