Abundance of auto emails

Haven't found anything similar to this issue on the forum. This afternoon, my inbox was deluged with 144 separate auto emails informing me that one of our members approved the opt-in. Two-thirds of the mails include the member's name and the other one-third of the emails just read *... that " " has APPROVED his/her contact information. *
I removed the one gross of identical emails from my inbox, but dang, I don't think that's how it supposed to work, is it
