FTH website SPAMMED member, guest, and former guest lists

Hi,

I am Jaime Mitchell, president of Bootstraps - club 2863.

I sent an email about a future guest speaker from my work email: jaime.a.mitchell@ssa.gov to 3 lists: 'members-2863@toastmastersclubs.org', formermembers-2863@toastmastersclubs.org, and guests-2863@toastmastersclubs.org on Thursday afternoon.

Beginning this past Saturday, that same email sent itself 68 times every 15 minutes during the day. As a result, I have received several angry emails from people on the guest list.

Questions:

1. Why did this happen?
2. If I or any of us email to these lists will this happen again?
3. Are you aware of this problem and has it been fixed?

A phone call @ 816-547-3096 or 816-936-4239 would be appreciated. Please answer immediately, because I have to explain why this happened to all three lists.

Thank you!

Jamie:

We did have email issues last week and have applied fixes to stop this.
We have run tests and did not see any repeated sending of emails. How was your email sent, did it have any attachments?

Are you still receiving these emails now?
Thank you,

Yes, it had an attachment.

Does that make a difference?

The emails began and stopped on Saturday.

What kind of problems? Problems with the server? I'd like to be able to explain the type of problem to our audience.

Thanks.

There was an operating system update that causes issues with the mail routines, they have been corrected. It was not something that usually happens and regret any inconvenience that it caused your club.

To underscore Brian's comments, it is never our intention to send a lot of unwanted emails. This was totally unplanned, unexpected, and due to an unplanned operating system software update that resulted in a malfunction of the server code.

Brian has put in a *lot* of time to correct this issue. We are committed that the FTH2 email system works well for clubs and districts. Part of that commitment is to not send spam/unwanted emails. The fact that these emails were sent as a result of a system malfunction is regrettable and I am sure that we will be looking for ways to prevent it from happening again.
