Custom Domain Email Addresses

9 years 9 months ago
#57003
Hi,

I am planning on creating a custom domain name for my Toastmasters club but I won't be purchasing email storage from the Registrar.

I know that the email address will be in the format [listname]@your-custom-domain.com.

However - when it comes to email storage - if I nominate a gmail account as the 'club archive email address' is this where all emails will be forwarded onto that are sent to [listname]@your-custom-domain.com?

And, when I reply to these emails from the gmail account, will it be converted back to the custom email address and the email sender appear in the person's inbox as [listname]@your-custom-domain.com rather than the gmail address?

Many thanks for your responses.

And also, an unrelated question, but is it possible to replace/remove the stock photos that are on the drop down pages on the homepage?

Do not purchase email storage... not needed and not supported.

Do use the archive email address... It acts like an extra "hidden recipient" for emails that go to a FTH email address. You not send from that archive account to an FTH email address, though... could get email loops if you do that.

Keep in mind that all FTH email addresses are essentially forwarding addresses. You can, however, set the reply settings in the Email and Contact Forms module to adjust what happens when someone replies to one of the FTH email addresses--those just set the "Reply-To" address setting for the email that overrides what is in the From address.

You can remove the bottom panes on the home page... Hide Menu Links on the bottom of Appearance tab.

Most of this is in our docs.... Please review our online documentation.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your first response.

In terms of the forwarding addresses, I can't find anywhere on the admin console where I can do this for one of the existing club email addresses. Also, is the process of creating a custom email address done through the custom groups section? For example, I would like to create a 'hello@clydecommunicators.org.uk' email address and for emails to be forwarded onto 'clydecommunicators@gmail.com'

Thanks,
Neil

Yes, custom email addresses are via custom groups, which must be comprised of those in the Membership Management module.

Sorry if I'm missing something but how do you create an email address for the custom group?

It is created automatically along with the custom group. It is created from the group name.

e.g. "mycustomgroup" => mycustomgroup-######@toastmastersclubs.org (#'s are the club number)

or the analogous if you have a custom domain.

See: support.toastmastersclubs.org/doc/item/membership-management , near the bottom.
