Existing member not able to login/reset his password

Hi -

One of our members (Spencer Grendahl) suddently cannot login to our website (foxtalkztoastmasters.com). He also tried to reset his password and he receives an error like the following (see also attached image):

"You have errors in your form below. Please scroll down and correct the following:
It looks like your system is not accepting cookies. You need to accept cookies to use this website. Please refer to this FAQ."

It seems the error is misleading since I was able to reset my own with no problems on the same computer and with the same browser. I wonder if his account may be locked out or something.

Could you please advise?

I am the current system developer in addition to being an FTH Ambassador.

The error message has nothing to do with setting the password, and everything to do with whether the system can save the login status in a cookie file on the user's computer.

The system tries to log a member in before it shows the new password prompt.

Part of that process is an attempt to save the login state (as logged in) in a cookie file on the computer. If the system gets to the prompt but no cookie is found that indicates the person is logged in then that indicates a problem... most likely a problem with saving the login state in cookies. This problem is detected on the save of the new password.

If the login state cannot be saved in a cookie file, then updating the password is kind of pointless since the system will keep "forgetting" that the person is logged in. Cookies are the "short term memory" for the login status... using cookies is required to make the system work properly. If cookies are not enabled, then the system will regularly log you out. (since it has no way of remembering that you are logged in)

Hi Steve,

thanks for replying. This is a bit confusing; It does not seem allowing the cookie is the problem here as, I mentioned, I myself was able to log in and change my password on the SAME computer under the SAME browser but this other member could not (using the very same computer and browser). Is there a way you can look into the database and check if the user is locked out and perhaps the system is getting confused with a different problem?

Just to give you more details: the change password prompt shows fine (after clicking on the reset link that he received on his email) and it is AFTER he enters his new password (twice) when he receives the error message about the cookies. Later, I did the same process with my own password (same computer/browser), I received the email, clicked on the link, entered my new password and I did not receive the error. I was logged in instead).

I appreciate your help. Thanks!
