UPDATED FEATURE - Crowd Sourced Blacklist w/ Email White List
5 years 7 months ago - 5 years 7 months ago
A change has been made to how the Crowd Sourced Black List feature works. This change has been planned for several months and is intended to reduce confusion around how to "white list" email addresses that show up in the crowd-source blacklist and make the feature more intuitive.
The Crowd Sourced Black List is an email black list feature that is intended to enable clubs to make use of other clubs black lists to protect their members from spam. Unfortunately, since using this essentially puts the trust of what email addresses to black list into the hands of the "crowd of clubs", we have always needed a way to exclude email addresses that may show up on that list. In the past, I had implemented something for this purpose that I called the "Crowd Sourced Exceptions" list that was essentially like a 2nd white list that was specific to the Crowd Sourced Black List.
So... if you are getting confused trying to understand the above, well, that is the point.
I finally realized that it was just too confusing since most clubs tended to always just want the "regular" Email White List, which seems more intuitive.
Therefore, I have ditched the Crowd Sourced Blacklist Exceptions (the data is still in the db for now), and appended any pre-existing data in the db from there into the club Email White Lists. Moving forward, just use the Email White List instead.
I will update the user docs appropriately.

On the
nilestownship.toastmastersclubs.org/
home page is a message:
"Please email us at officers-665@toastmastersclubs.org for Zoom meeting information"
I try to send a message to the above address from desplainestoastmasters@hotmail.com, and get this message in reply:
"You do not have the right permissions to send an e-mail to this e-mail address (officers-665@toastmastersclubs.org) from desplainestoastmasters@hotmail.com . Be sure your "From" address in your e-mail client is the same as your address in your toastmastersclubs.org member profile"
Could this be related to the "UPDATED FEATURE - Crowd Sourced Blacklist w/ Email White List"?
Or aren't non-members supposed contact officers of neighboring clubs that way anymore?
desplainestoastmasters@hotmail.com is the email address listed in Member Management under desplaines.toastmastersclub.org. (Would it have worked if I'd used my alternate Yahoo or Gmail accounts (all desplainestoastmasters)? Toastmasters.org lists it too as my primary email address, and desplainestoastmasters@yahoo.com as my secondary one.

Ralph, your premise is incorrect. Only members can send emails to the officers list. (However, non-members can send emails to the individual officer email addresses, as long as they are enabled by the individual members in their member profiles.) That is the way the system has always been, from way back when. In fact, we even have this documented on the following user doc page:
support.toastmastersclubs.org/doc/item/email-lists-and-aliases

For external contacts (non club members) we have always said to use the contact form or to enable the contact email address and use that.
